Leading Your County Governing Board

An Orientation for New Board Chairs

Each January, the Association and UNC School of Government co-host Leading Your County Governing Board: An Orientation for New Board Chairs. This one-day training provides an overview on the legal responsibilities and duties for chairs and vice chairs, how to run a meeting, tips for building and maintaining effective relationships with all board members, and advice on best practices for media relations.

While this program is designed for board chairs and vice chairs, all commissioners will benefit from the training. County managers, clerks to the board, and county attorneys are also invited to register.

Instructors: NCACC staff and veteran board chairs

The 2017 Orientation will be held on Wednesday, January 11 in Wake County at the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program includes morning beverages, lunch and an afternoon break. A detailed agenda will be available soon.
